Clos Aguilem
Saint-André-de-Sangonis (Languedoc)
Regularly rewarded by the Hachette Wine Guide, Clos Aguilem is a 9 ha estate located below the Larzac, 35 km west of Montpellier, near the Mediterranean Sea.
It was created in 2015 by Jean-Charles Auffret, agricultural engineer and oenologist, after a career in Champagne, at Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.
The vines are located in the Hérault, near the village of Saint Guilhem le Désert, in the municipalities of Saint Saturnin de Lucian, Arboras, Saint Guiraud, Ceyras and Saint André de Sangonis, all belonging to the Terrasses du Larzac appellation.
The vineyard is made up of old plots of Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache noir, Grenache blanc and Chenin and younger plots of Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Vermentino. The cultivation of vines is guided by the search for a limited yield and minimal intervention on the soil.
The estate has been in organic conversion since 2016 and its vintages will carry the AB label from the 2019 vintage.
The vinification aims to respect the integrity of the grape, to express the fruity side, to extract the tannic structure as melted as possible and to produce wines with an imposing volume and with a good length in the mouth.
